About the Workshop

For over ten years, the National Catholic Development Conference (NCDC) has offered an extremely popular workshop, “Fundamentals and More,” especially designed for small religious institutes that currently have no resource development program.  This workshop was created in response to a survey of religious institutes conducted by the National Religious Retirement Office (NRRO) and NCDC that indicated some significant trends:

  1. Most religious institutes are struggling financially.
  2. Most realize they need new sources of revenue and support.
  3. There are a significant number of viable institutes who do not have a resource development program in place.
  4. Most of these groups are interested in learning how to establish such a program.

At the recommendation of past participants and the requests of those still interested in attending this program, we are again offering “Fundamentals and More.”  This year’s workshop will take place May 6-8, 2019 at the Carmelite Spiritual Center in Darien, IL.

Because NRRO believes so strongly in this program, the Retirement Office is willing to once again offer grants for religious institutes to attend this workshop.

What to Expect from this Program

    • Invaluable information to take back in order to make a decision regarding the establishment or growth of a development office or program.
    • Clearly identified next steps for creating a development plan for their institute.
    • Information that is practical and applicable to their institute and its needs.
    • An organized reference binder with instant access to important information and notes.
    • Mentors available to offer support and assistance, at your request.

In evaluating the program, participants felt “Fundamentals and More” was well worth the investment of time and energy and they learned a tremendous amount in such a short time.

Intended Audience

This program is limited to small religious institutes without a resource development program, that are struggling financially, and are in need of new sources of revenue and support.

Previous workshop attendees included priors, major superiors, treasurers, leadership team members and in some cases, a person who was designated as the future development director.

Program Grants Available

Because NRRO believes so strongly in this program, the Retirement Office is willing to once again offer grants for religious institutes to attend this workshop.

We know that the availability of grant monies from NRRO will you a real chance to participate in the program.  We are extremely grateful to NRRO for recognizing the need for development and thank them for their support.

It is the responsibility of each institute to apply directly to NRRO for the grant money.  You can download the grant application from NRRO here.
